Printmaking

Carved in rubber and printed with oil-based ink on 77gsm white Masa paper, 2023 - Current

As I started looking into markets and local community galleries I wanted to be able to offer something more affordable than my watercolour originals and commissions. I love the carve and print aesthetic and remembered learning about the process in art class in grade 9. After a whole lot of trial and error I eventually worked out a process that worked for me (mostly), and to be completely honest the piece below titled ‘First Print’ was not the first print by far. It should be titled ‘First Print I Felt Comfortable Sharing With the World’.
During the carving process I noticed that my mind was so calm, which made me realise in contrast that I had become so negative and critical of myself while painting with watercolours. I’ve since worked on this critical self-talk, but still find the carving to be the most therapeutic medium I work with.
