Early Work
I used to draw a lot growing up, but only considered taking my creative hobbies seriously after a series of failed group interviews for retail customer service positions at the age of 22. I was always a quiet kid and had struggled with social anxiety through high school, but these interviews had me feeling so small and alone. I attended a few therapy sessions on a mental health care plan and was prescribed an anti-anxiety medication for the first time.
I remember feeling a clarity and certainty that I hadn’t felt before, bordering on overconfidence. I started coming up with all of these big over-the-top ideas and plans to reach out and connect with people. At this time I decided I was going to go all-in on either visual arts or singing and songwriting.
I wrote a few songs, but mostly used this time to draw every day, practicing different mediums and adding more colour to my work. I practiced portraiture by offering free portraits on Instagram.
